Your sixth-grade child will be participating in the Universal Screening process and will be taking the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT). The CogAT measures a student's potential problem-solving skills in the areas of verbal ability (word analogies and sentence completion), quantitative ability (numeric) and nonverbal reasoning ability (puzzles, part-to-whole, and visual spatial manipulation of pictures).

Our school will be administering the CogAT from October 6th to October 15th; students will have one day where they participate in testing, depending on their team and hybrid schedule.

The test results provide us with important information helpful in meeting your student's unique learning needs. Teachers will use the testing data to provide appropriate learning experiences and levels of challenge for your child.

The CogAT is a universal screener and one piece of a body of evidence that could lead to a gifted identification in Academy District 20. This body of evidence will help your child's teacher as they make decisions regarding flexible groups in programming and curriculum in the future.

If you have questions regarding this testing, please feel free to contact Kylee Caraveo.
