Overdues, Fines, Damaged Books, & Lost Books
OVERDUES & FINES
Overdue notices will be distributed weekly by LA teachers.
- After a two-week checkout, books not returned are overdue.
After a book is 14 days late (2 weeks), a $2.00 fine is automatically assessed. This means you have a two-week grace period before a fee is charged.
Magazines check out for 3 days with no grace period. The overdue fine is .25 cents for each day it is late (max. $2.00).
If you have an overdue or a fine, you may not check out another book until your account is cleared.
Lost books not taken care of by the end of each quarter will have a $2.00 fine assessed each quarter.
Students can check their library accounts for due dates and fines. Directions are on the LMTC home page.
- We check for damage as each book is returned, before it goes back on the shelf.
Report any damage that you notice in a book right away.
If a book accidentally gets damaged while you have it checked out, show it to us. (We can usually fix it or have it repaired.)
If the book is damaged beyond repair, you will need to pay for its replacement.
Once books have been overdue for 4 weeks, the library system declares it lost.
You will be responsible for paying for lost books before you can check out a new one.
We will try to mail lost book notices once per quarter.
WE will replace the books with a library-quality copy. (Not trade-bound, or simple hardback) When we order them, they also come with the barcodes, labels, and computer catalog files we need. Do not buy a new copy of the book and bring it in. Books purchased via the Internet or from a local retailer are NOT acceptable replacements and cannot be accepted.
Once the book has been paid for, if you find the book, it is yours to keep. If we have not yet ordered the replacement, you can ask about a refund possibility.
According to Academy District 20 Policy, “Students shall be assessed fines for lost, damaged or defaced books (including those checked out from the library), materials or equipment. The fines will be for the amount of the loss.” (Policy JQ) The Policy further states that “the district may then withhold the diploma, transcript or grades of any student who fails to return or replace such textbooks at the end of the semester or school year.”
We appreciate your taking care of lost books in a timely manner. In order to clear the obligation and restore library privileges, please do one of the following:
· return the missing item(s) in good condition to the Media Center along with the overdue fine of $2.00 (automatically assessed after two weeks overdue), or
· pay the replacement cost for the item(s) and we will waive the overdue fine. We accept cash or checks payable to Eagleview Middle School. If you prefer to pay by credit card, please use District 20’s portal on PayForIt.net. Please note that there is a service fee when paying with this method. Books purchased via the Internet or from a local retailer are NOT acceptable replacements and cannot be accepted.
Thank you for your support!
