Regular attendance is a key factor in student achievement. When your child is absent from school, a parent must inform the school attendance office by 9:30 a.m. to have the absence excused. Please call 719-234-3440. If you cannot reach us, leave a voicemail or send an email for Attendance.
Please include your name, student name, grade, phone number, and reason for the absence.
Absences will be classified as either excused or unexcused. Excused absences include:
- Temporary illness or injury
- Physical, emotional, or mental disability
- Suspension
- Being in the custody of law enforcement authorities
If the absence does not fall within one of these categories, it will be considered unexcused. Medical notes may be requested for excessive absences.
If a student fails to attend school on a scheduled day without an excused absence, the school will make a reasonable attempt to contact parents by telephone.
Pre-Arranged Absence
If your child will be absent for multiple days, you may fill out an Extended Absence Form or obtain one from the attendance office.
Late Arrival to School
When students arrive late, a parent must call ahead or accompany the child to check in at the Attendance Office. If the student has an early morning absence, a parent may call or send a note stating the reason for the late arrival.
All late-arriving students must report to the Attendance Office before going to class to receive an “Excused Admit Slip.” Any student checking in without parent contact will be marked unexcused.
Early Departures
For safety and security, students will only be released to adults or siblings listed as Guardians in Infinite Campus. Exceptions require prior approval from a Guardian by phone or note naming the person authorized to sign out the student.
Academy District 20 requires a photo ID to check a student out of school.
Messages and Deliveries
Messages and deliveries from parents should be left at the attendance office. Please call before 2:30 p.m. to request message delivery on school days.
Delivery times for items and messages are 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students will not be called to the telephone during school.
