Joining the NJHS
At Eagleview Middle School, participation in NJHS is reserved for 8th graders. At the end of students’ 7th grade school year, those who are interested in participating in NJHS for their 8th grade year are invited to complete a Candidate Information Form and submit it to EMS’s Faculty Council for review. Qualifying students will be inducted in May.
Requirements for Chapter Membership
Submission of Candidate Information Form & approval by Faculty Council
Participation in Induction ceremony
Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Completion of 20 hours of service to school and/or community
Participation in monthly lunch meetings and additional scheduled events
Dues payment of $20—Scholarships are available! Membership is not contingent upon ability to pay.
The “Five Pillars” of National Junior Honor Society
An NJHS member demonstrates SCHOLARSHIP by:
Maintaining a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher
Being actively engaged in learning within the classroom and the community
An NJHS member demonstrates SERVICE by:
Completing 20 hours of service to school and/or community between June of the student’s 7th grade year and May of the student’s 8th grade year
Volunteering and providing dependable and well-organized assistance, and being willing to make sacrifices in order to offer assistance
Working well with others and being willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities
Enthusiastically rendering any requested service to the school
Being willing to represent the class or school in interclass and/or interscholastic competition
Doing committee and staff work without complaint
Participating in some activity outside of school, for example; Girl Scouts; Boy Scouts; religious groups; volunteer services for the elderly, poor, or disadvantaged.
Mentoring at school and within the community
Showing courtesy by assisting visitors, teachers, and students
An NJHS member demonstrates LEADERSHIP by:
Attending required meetings (monthly) and participating in scheduled events
Being resourceful in proposing new solutions, applying principles, and making suggestions
Demonstrating initiative in promoting school activities
Exercising positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals and spirit
Contributing ideas that improve the civic life of the school
Being able to delegate responsibilities
Inspiring positive behavior in others
Demonstrating academic initiative
Successfully holding school offices or positions of responsibility; conducting business effectively and efficiently; demonstrating reliability and dependability
Being a leader in the classroom, at work, or in other school or community activities
Being dependable in any responsibility accepted
An NJHS member demonstrates CHARACTER by:
Consistently exemplifying positive and desirable qualities of behavior (cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, stability, etc…)
